What Should Be Taken Into Account
When Visiting The Western Wall
Timing
Depending on how you plan on arriving at the Western Wall Plaza.
- Light Rail - 5-7 minute walk from the City Hall station to Jaffa Gate. From Jaffa or Zion Gate it is a 15-20 minute walk.
- Parking Lots- Anywhere between 10-20 minutes walk.
- Public Transportation/Taxi drop off: 5 minute walk.
Restrictions in Visiting the Western Wall
Items prohibited to bring to the Western Wall
- Equipment for event production.
- Amplification systems unless accompanied by a Western Wall Heritage Foundation usher.
- Musical instruments.
- Alcohol.
- Balloons or other pyrotechnics.
- Doves to be released.
- Any kind of signs.
- Sharp tools, including tools of a Mohel for a Brit Milah.
- Shofar (other than during the month of Elul and Aseret Yemei Teshuva).
- Animals, other than guide dogs.
Seasonal Weather Conditions
- Spring/Summer- Don’t forget your hat, sunglasses & sunscreen- The Kotel Plaza is an open site, There’s no shade in the area of the Plaza. Near the public bathrooms, there are stairs to a rooftop with shade, overlooking the Kotel Plaza
- Fall/Winter- It is recommended to bring an umbrella, as the Plaza is an open site.
Recommended Accessories
- Bottle of Water. There are shops in the area of the Kotel Plaza. There are in the area free cold water filling stations
- Walking/comfortable shoes. Walking to the Kotel through the Old City or from remote parking lots, will require comfortable walking shoes.
- Wheelchair Accessibility only from Dung Gate.
- Siddurim (prayer books) and Paper Notes (to place between the Holy Stones) - are available at the Kotel Plaza.
- WIFI and Cellphone reception. Take into consideration, there’s no reception in the Western Wall Tunnels
