Tonight the President of Poland, Mr. Andrzej Duda, visited the Western Wall accompanied by the Rabbi of Poland, Rabbi Michael Schudrich, and was welcomed by the Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, shlita.
The President expressed his excitement visiting the holiest site for the Jewish people. He told the Rabbi of the Western Wall that the millions who died on Polish soil prayed to this holy site, but were not able to touch its stones, and certainly they never dreamed that one day the Polish president will be here for prayer.
A delegation from China's Ministry of Religious Affairs visited the Western Wall and tour the Western Wall Tunnels.
Czech Repulic's Defense Minister, Mr. Martin Stropnický, visited the Western Wall.
The Minister noted that although he was not Jewish, he still felt a powerful emotion from the site.
He then toured the Western Wall Tunnels and learnt about the deep connection of the Jewish people to this place.
The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Mr. Andrew Holness, visited the Western Wall on Friday, accompanied by the Chabad emissary, Rabbi Yehoshua Raskin, and the Rabbi of the Western Wall, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz.The Prime Minister began his visit with a new project of the Western Wall Heritage Foundation which allows a visitor to look back at the past of the Jewish nation at this holy site. He noted his awareness of the deep and ancient connection between the Jewish nation and the Western Wall and Temple Mount, while reminding those present that Jamaica voted against the UNESCO resolution denying Jewish connection to this site.The Prime Minister prayed with the Western Wall Rabbi in front of the stones of the Wall and did not hide his emotion about the sacred nature of where he was standing.The Chabad emissary told the Prime Minister about his activities in Jamaica where there are approximately 350 resident Jews and approximately 200,000 Jewish visitors annually. The Prime Minister spoke of the Jewish nation’s historic relationship with his country when they arrived as refugees from Spain and Portugal centuries ago.
We all know that the Western Wall, the Kotel, is the most significant site in the world for the Jewish people. We know that it is the last remnant of our Temple. We also know that Jews from around the world gather here to pray. People write notes to G-d and place them between the ancient stones of the Wall.
The Western Wall Heritage Foundation invites you to celebrate a Bar Mitzvah at the Kotel, in a unique atmosphere of unity and holiness, and at no charge.
The Western Wall Plaza hosts approximately 60,000 people. It symbolizes the Jewish link to Jerusalem and serves as the synagogue closest to the remains of both Holy Temples.
The Western Wall's visible stones tell of its history from the time of the Holy Temples' ruin. The original Herodian stones are distinct from the others in size and in their unique borders.
The building style of "grading" used when layering the Western Wall's stones,teaches us that the Temple Mount's walls were not perpendicular but marginally sloping.
